An inquiry is underway into the role of a deputy jailor and a few wardens of the Lucknow District Jail for allegedly providing undue facilities to criminal Babloo Srivastava.
Jail Superintendent R K Kesarwani found Srivastava wearing branded clothes instead of the usual kurta-pyajama worn by the convicts on Tuesday. Later,he had to force Srivastava to wear the convicts dress till he was at the Lucknow jail. On Wednesday, however, the don was again seen in his own attire in the high security barrack during inspection. Following this,Kesarwani initiated an inquiry against the jail staff for allegedly helping Srivastava in getting his clothes back from the jail store.
So far, statements of three of the concerned jail staff have been recorded. The role of the alleged officials will be made clear only after the inquiry is completed, said Kesarwani, who is conducting the inquiry. Stern action will be initiated against them if found guilty,he added. Srivastava was brought to the Lucknow three days ago for a hearing at the Lucknow Gangster court. He returned to Bareilly jail on Thursday,Kesarwani said.
A senior official at the Prison headquarters said the superintendent has also been asked to probe if some of the jail staff was making money by facilitating the inmates.
