Cops suspended for extortion

A police outpost in Gulawati area was disbanded while three constables were suspended on Monday following complaints of extortion at checkgates. Bulandshahr SSP Neelesh Kumar ordered the disbanding and ordered the shifting of six other policemen to the Reserve Police Lines. The SSP said that he received complaints from traders alleging that policemen at the Baral outpost harassed the drivers of commercial vehicles and forced them to pay up. The officer sent SP (City) J K Shahi to the outpost on Monday. Shahi reportedly caught three of the constables — Lakshmi Narain,Komal Singh and Veer Bahadur Singh — accepting money from drivers.
