UP: ‘Contract killer’ held, Mukhtar Ansari to get extra security

The UP Police plans to enhance the security of gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari after an alleged contract killer was arrested by Delhi Police for planning to assassinate him.

Ansari, who is an MLA from Mau of Qaumi Ekta Dal, a party headed by his brother, is currently lodged in Agra Central Jail. He has several criminal cases lodged against him in Lucknow, Ghazipur, Mau and Delhi.

One Lambu Sharma was recently arrested for allegedly planning to kill Ansari after taking money from his rival gang.

ADG (Law and Order) Daljit Chowdhary said the Delhi Police have not communicated anything officially to UP Police and they are yet to receive Sharma’s recorded statement. “We are going to be more cautious when he (Ansari) travels. We are going to look at enhancing his security when he travels for court hearings or to attend the Assembly,” Chowdhary said.

Agra SSP Modak Rajesh Rao said Ansari gets adequate security according to the protocol fixed for it, including a deputy SP.
