Constable shot dead,undertrial flees

An undertrial escaped after his associates allegedly shot dead a police constable escorting him to a court,in Gorakhpur’s Khorabar area on Wednesday afternoon.

An undertrial escaped after his associates allegedly shot dead a police constable escorting him to a court,in Gorakhpur’s Khorabar area on Wednesday afternoon.

Constable Ashok Kumar Gaur,45,had brought the undertrial,Manoj Ojha,to court. “The constable suffered two bullet injuries in his stomach and face,” said Vinay Pathak,station officer of Khorabar police station. No one has yet claimed to have witnessed the incident. In the afternoon,an unidentified person called up the police control room to say that the body of a police constable was lying in a field in Siddharthpuram Colony under Khorabar police circle.

The police reached the site and sent the body for postmortem. During the inquiry,it came to light that constable Gaur,who was attached with Reserve Police Lines in Gorakhpur,was assigned to produce Ojha before court. It was also realised that Ojha did not return to jail after appearing in the court.
