The Congress has decided to give two more months time to Akhilesh Yadav government and then will take up agitations across the state over the issue of law and order and governance. The decision has been taken highest level of the party and sources said that the agitation would be led by none other than Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi, who has not visited the state since the partys debacle in the Assembly elections.
A senior party leader cited two main reasons for planning the agitations from October. First, the organisational changes within the party are expected to be completed by August-end and thus it would also give ample time to the newly formed body to plan these agitations. Secondly, the party does not want to take any chances by launching its agitation against SP government before the end of the monsoon session of parliament.
October will be the right time after monsoon session as MPs from the state would be free from parliament, said a party leader. The idea is to revive the partys organisation till the grassroots level through these agitations since it has been inactive after the elections, insiders said.
They said Rahul Gandhi will personally take part in these agitations in order to keep his promise of working in the state despite election results. While the new body in the state will be given the charge of these programmes, the preparations will be made in Delhi.
Before taking up these agitations, party has given the task of increasing the membership of the partys mouth-piece Congress Sandesh through membership campaign across the state. The idea is to reach out to the masses as well as cadres through the magazine rather than just depending on the publicity material before election to make people aware about the schemes and policies of UPA government.
