Five days after delay at Rahul Gandhi’s meeting in Bahraich caused district Congress leaders’ opposition over ticket distribution, disciplinary committee of the state Congress committee suspended Bahraich district president Jitendra Pratap Singh with immediate effect. Besides, the party has issued warning to all the districts of similar action in case of opposition against party leaders.

Singh was removed from the post on November 24,a day after Rahul’s meeting in Bahraich but following allegations that he continued to indulge in anti-party activities,he was suspended on Tuesday. Sources said Union Steel Minister Beni Prasad Verma had personally complained against Singh.

On November 23,before the start of Rahul Gandhi’s meeting in Bahraich, supporters of Singh had stopped the crowd from coming to the ground. They had burnt Beni Prasad’s effigy and also raised slogans against him. They were opposing importance given to Beni Prasad in the party and were alleging that outsiders were given party ticket on his intervention.

“We have suspended him because even after removal from the post,he continued with opposition in the district. Explanation has been sought from him for his conduct,” said Ram Krishna Dwivedi, chairman of the UPCC disciplinary committee.
