Sanjay Pratap Jaiswal,Congress MLA from Rudauli constituency of Basti district, got into a scuffle with a doctor of a government hospital allegedly after the doctor refused to attend to some patients in OPD on Monday noon.
The MLA and the doctor have both lodged complaints with police, but no FIR had been lodged.
The MLA alleged that Dr Sunil Tiwari, who is a physician with Kaili Hospital, refused to attend to patients sent by him and left for private practice at his residence on the hospital campus.
Dr Tiwari,on the other hand, alleged in his complaint that the MLA and his men barged into his residence and attacked him.
Basti SP M D Karnadhar said both persons had alleged that the other attacked him. The police are investigating,he said.
MLA Jaiswal said he had sent some patients of the constituency to the hospital, accompanied by a party worker Pervez Ahmed. However, the doctor refused to attend to them. Ahmed then called up the MLA.
Jaiswal said he tried to talk to the doctor, but he refused and, instead, asked him to come and meet him at the hospital. The MLA said he reached the hospital only to find that the doctor had gone to his flat.
He said that he went to Dr Tiwaris residence to find a list of 25 patients to be attended by him after taking a fee. He collected the list to show it to the district magistrate when Dr Tiwari called about a dozen youths from a local medicine shop. The doctor and his men attacked him and snatched the list of patients forcibly,Jaiswal alleged. He also said he had given a complaint against the doctor and his associates.
While the doctor could not be contacted,Basti Additional SP Manoj Kumar Jha said that the MLA went to the doctors residence and a verbal duel between them led to a scuffle. The supporters of the MLA and some locals who backed the doctor had an altercation,he added.
