Minorities Affair Minister Azam Khan has written a letter to the Director General of Police (DGP) over some objectionable posts related to him on social networking site Facebook.
It is a sinister design against me. I cannot rule it out on the grounds that it is an action of some insane person. Such an act has the backing of some organisation and powerful persons who want to tarnish my political image, Khan said on Thursday while demanding action against those behind it.
He referred to a Facebook post put up using an email id uppolicepr@gmail.com. The post, with a picture of Azam, states: Muslim leaders will not apply tilak. They will also boycott Vande Matram as Islam prohibits both secularism and patriotism.
I cannot even think about such a thing. It was about me that Puris Shankaracharya had stated in 2007 that I will organise Kumbh-2013… No one can raise a finger on my character, he said.
It is the communally provocative comments being posted in his name that are troubling the minister.
Azam also accused the police of showing laxity in past instances of cyber crime against him.
Azam had informed the Lucknow police through a letter on October 18 last year about his fake Facebook profile, but to no effect. When the complaints of a senior minister are treated in such a manner,I can very well understand why common people are losing faith in the police, he said.
He denied any role of his partymen or any political opponent in the latest Facebook post . My partymen do not do such things. Police should probe and take action, he said.
