Four persons were arrested for allegedly pelting members of another community, including youngsters and children, with stones at Luxmipur village in Padrauna block of Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar district on Sunday afternoon.

A six-year-old boy was injured in the stone pelting, the police said, adding that the incident took place when some youngsters went to a part of the village dominated by another community to invite locals to take part in a religious procession.

In the meantime, youngsters of the two communities got into an argument that snowballed into a clash as their family members joined them. Both the groups started pelting each other with stones and the matter was resolved only after other people intervened.

The six-year-old injured in the stone pelting is undergoing treatment at a hospital and the doctors said his condition was stable.

Kubersthan Station House Officer Pankaj Gupta said the injured boy’s family lodged an FIR against members of the other community.

Kushinagar Additional Superintendent of Police Ritesh Kumar Singh said the religious procession was held peacefully and rumours were being circulated that some people attacked those participating in the yatra.

A case was registered against those arrested under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, the
police said.
