Two weeks after Uttar Pradesh Lokayukta N K Mehrotra upheld charges of corruption against small scale industries minister Chandradev Ram Yadav,Chief Minister Mayawati removed him on Wednesday.
The BSP has already denied him a ticket to contest the UP Assembly polls. The charge of his department was given to social welfare minister Indrajeet Saroj.
Yadav is an MLA from Mubarakpur in Azamgarh.
In his report submitted to the government on December 28 last year, the Lokayukta had indicted Yadav for drawing salary from two schools and had recommended his removal from the Cabinet. He had obtained 10 arms licenses in violation of rules.
Yadav is the sixth minister to be dismissed on the basis of Lokayukta’s reports. Earlier,Rajesh Tripathi,Awadhpal Singh,Badshah Singh,Rangnath Mishra and Ratan Lal Ahirwar were removed following their indictment by the ombudsman.
The opposition flayed the CMs move terming it as an eyewash. “He should have been removed immediately after the Lokayukta report was received by the CM,” BJP spokesman Vijay Bahadur Pathak said.
