Chitrakoot killings: Motive not clear

Investigations into the killing of five family members,including a former village pradhan,allegedly by the Balkharia gang of dacoits in Chitrakoot on August 9 has revealed that one of the victims,Suneel,had fought with a relative of dacoit Sudesh Patel alias Balkharia over construction of a village road three days before the incident.

The police,however,said they were yet to ascertain whether this was the motive behind the killings.

Apart from the former pradhan,Durga Prasad,and Suneel,his younger brother,the latter’s wife,mother and the daughter of Durga’s elder brother were killed in Doda Mati village under Markundi PS area of the district.

“The probe so far has revealed that three days ago,a relative of Balkharia and Suneel had fought with each other over construction of road being executed through the Zila Panchayat. Both had apparently got contracts to construct different stretches of the road,” said Deputy Inspector General (Chitrakoot Dham Range) P K Srivastava.
