The CBI probing into the mysterious death of deputy CMO Dr Y S Sachan inside a Lucknow jail is learnt to have found that Sachan was not murdered and had committed suicide under intense pressure. The agencys claim is backed by the reports of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) which examined the medical records of Sachan and gave a final opinion recently.
This comes a major relief for the Uttar Pradesh government, earlier accused of being hand-in-glove in Sachans death.
According to sources, the autopsy report examined by forensic experts and a panel of doctors from the AIIMS have opined that the nature of injuries suffered by Sachan could have been self inflicted.
The case is still under investigation but we have not found any foul play so far. In view of the medical reports from the doctors of AIIMS,we have no reason to believe that Sachan was murdered as alleged earlier, said a CBI official. This is also deviation from the CBIs earlier stand.
Sleuths say that Sachan was under tremendous pressure which could have forced him to take such a drastic step.
While reconstructing the last days of Sachan in jail, the CBI has examined other inmates who are learnt to have told the agency that he was not in a sound state of mind. He was arrested in connection with the murder of two CMOs. The role of policemen who were handling the case is still under the scanner but there is no direct evidence to link their role so far. We have questioned the jail authorities and key state government officials who claimed to have denied any knowledge, said a CBI official.
The CBI was ordered to investigate the case and submit a report by the Allahabad High Court on July 14 last year. The agency said that they will submit a report before the court with a detailed medical report and opinion of AIIMS doctors. Sources said that the report will contain the statements of jail officials, forensic investigations and cellphone records.
Sachan,an accused in the murders of former CMOs Dr V K Arya and Dr B P Singh, was found dead in a toilet on the first floor of Lucknow jail on June 22. The autopsy report of Sachan had stated that he had bled to death from the several deep cuts found on his body. This has now been confirmed by an independent panel of doctors, said CBI.
The UP government had claimed that Sachan committed suicide but after intense pressure from the family, the case was transferred to the CBI. The family alleged that Sachan had been killed in a planned manner as he would have spilled the beans regarding involvement of influential people in the two murders and financial scandals in the implementation of the National Rural Health Mission.
