Cops move court in Shukla case

The Lucknow police,on Saturday,moved an application in the Court of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM),urging the court to take cognizance of the chargesheet filed by the police against former CMO of Lucknow Dr AK Shukla.

On July 14,the ACJM Intakhab Alam had returned the chargesheet and case diary filed by the police in the case merely 48 hours after the arrest of Shukla. The ACJM had directed the police to first complete the investigation and then file the chargesheet.

“I have filed an application under Section 173 of the CrPC (Report of police officer on completion of investigation) today,urging the court to take cognizance of the chargesheet. The matter will be taken up by the court on July 18,” said S Rahim,Investigating Officer in Shukla’s case.

Shukla,who was arrested on July 12,is the main accused in the FIR lodged on April 7 by the Department of Family Welfare regarding financial anomalies that surfaced after the murder of Dr BP Singh,CMO,Family Welfare of Lucknow. The other accused in the FIR was Dr YS Sachan,who was found dead in mysterious circumstances while in Jail on June 22 and whose death is now being investigated by the CBI.
