Latest feather in his cap is award of excellence in the 5th China International Press Photo Contest (CHIPP2008). Allahabad University Fine Arts graduate and Jaunpur native Rajesh Kumar Singh has picked a number of international awards and this time it is for poignant frames of the Pushkar fair considering the biggest marketplace for animals, specially camels in the category of Culture & Entertainment News Stories. “In 1999,at the International Photographic Conference seminar in Patna, two of my pictures were selected instantly for an award,” says Singh, adding, the pictures selected included one which showed just the beautifully made up feet of a bride.

Singh is an employee of the Associated Press and has worked for some national dailies too. “I began with a fortnightly called Teesri Aankh and kept contributing my pictures around,” says the lensman. His pictures have appeared in leading publications of the world, including Time and Newsweek.

His subjects vary from roadside dentists to bird flu and a compilation of the best of all his work awaits a publisher. “Sangam is the recurring theme of my work,” he says.
