A 36-year-old local BSP leader was shot by motorcycle-borne assailants near his house under Dhoomanganj police station area of the city Sunday night.
Dinesh Chandra Gautam,who was BSPs vice-president of City (West) Assembly constituency,was along with his two-year-old son on a motorcycle when he was attacked.
Five persons have been named in the FIR registered in this connection. Dispute over sharing of commission in a property deal is believed to be the reason behind the incident.
The police said the incident occurred around 9 pm near Gautams house at Pipal Gaon under Dhoomanganj police station area.
Gautam was returning on a motorcycle from a function within the village with his two-year-old son,Yash. Five persons on two motorcycles shot him in the back when he was barely 100 metres from his house near the Pipal Gaon police post. His son did not sustain serious injuries.
Gautam was first taken to a private hospital from where he was rushed to Swaroop Rani Nehru hospital. The doctors there declared him dead on arrival, said Circle Officer (Civil Lines) Neeraj Pandey.
The police said Gautam along with Yash,his younger brother Anurag and friend Manjeet had gone to attend the function. Anurag and Manjeet were on another motorcycle.
As the news of the murder spread,Gautams supporters and family members gathered on the spot of the incident and shouted slogans demanding arrest of the culprits.
BSP MLA from City (West) Pooja Pal also reached the spot. Additional force was summoned from neighbouring police stations to keep things under control.
In his complaint,Anurag has named five persons Sant Lal Yadav,Pankaj Kushwaha,Basant Yadav,Rajender Pasi and Hans Lal Yadav for Gautams death. He has alleged that a day before the incident,he was threatened by the accused over Gautams refusal to pay Rs 10,000, said Pandey.
Superintendent of Police (City) Shailesh Yadav said: There was a dispute between two parties regarding commission in connection with the sale of a plot. The parties had entered into an argument at the place where Gautam had gone to attend the function.
