Three persons died after the Santro car they were travelling in was hit by a speeding train at an unmanned railway crossing in Varanasi district on Thursday. Varanasi SP (City) Vijay Bhushan said the incident took place when a PAC constable,Radheyshyam (38),was on way to Ghazipur district along with his relative Parmanand (28) and car driver Nand Kishore (32). The driver could not see the Varanasi-bound Sarnath Durg Express approaching the crossing near Rajwadi locality in Chaubeypur area,leading to the accident,said Vijay Bhushan. The constable was posted with the 36 battalion PAC in Varanasi.

Consultant named for Upper Ganga Canal Expressway
The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Development Authority has signed an agreement with IL&FS Infrastructure Development Corporation for consultancy of the Upper Ganga Canal Expressway,earlier called the Hindon Expressway. The state government had decided to change the alignment of the earlier Hindon Expressway and build it on the side of the Ganga canal. The company would not only conduct the alignment survey but also prepare the detailed project report for the expressway. The deadline to start work on this 170-km long,eight-lane expressway is March.
