Allahabad’s suspension revoked br>Buckling under the pressure exerted by officers of the North Central Railway Zone,the Railway Board on Wednesday revoked the suspension order of Divisional Railway Manager (DRM),Allahabad,S K Agrawal. “Agrawal’s suspension was revoked and he was transferred to the Patiala division. As our demand (to revoke the suspension) was met,we withdrew our proposed agitation in public interest,” said the NCR Officers’ Association. B K Agrawal will now take charge as DRM Allahabad. The Association would,however,continue to press with its demand for fill of vacancies at the earliest. Agrawal was suspended following the Tundla mishap on January 16 which left three persons dead and 15 injured. Irked by the suspension,the divisional and zonal associations of North Central Railway officers protested against the Board’s decision by wearing black badges during duty hours.

23 more deaths,winter toll 451
Lucknow: Twenty-three more people died of cold in different districts of Uttar Pradesh since Tuesday evening,taking the toll this winter to 451.

While four persons each were killed in Chandauli and Ghazipur in cold-related incidents,three deaths were reported from Ballia,Gorakhpur and Sitapur and one each from Orai,Bhadoi,Barabanki,Shahjahanpur,Kannauj and Azamgarh,said official sources. According to the Met department,Shahjahanpur,which recorded a minimum temperature of 3.5 degrees Celsius,was the coldest place in the state. It was followed by Agra,where mercury level dipped to 4.4 degrees Celsius.

While Bahraich recorded a maximum day temperature of 11.6 degrees Celsius (11 degrees below normal),Lucknow recorded a maximum temperature of 17.8 degrees Celsius (five notches below normal). In Kanpur,maximum temperature was 14.8 degrees Celsius (eight degrees below normal). Allahabad recorded a maximum of 17.8 degrees Celsius and Varanasi recorded a maximum of 17.6 degrees Celsius.
