Homeguards,cops booked for killing youth
Lucknow:A murder case has been filed against two policemen and two homeguards for allegedly beating a youth and throwing him in a canal in Muzaffarnagars Bhopa area on Friday night,causing his death. All four were attached with Bhopa police station. On Saturday morning,residents of Choli village held a dharna at the site,demanding action against the guilty. They alleged that the policemen and homeguards caught Asad (18) digging sand from a dry portion of the canal,beat him up and threw him in the deep end of the canal. The policemen denied the allegations,saying that Asad fell in the water while trying to run away and died. The villagers called off their dharna after assurance of action against cops and compensation for Asads family.
BSP fields Maurya daughter in Mainpuri
Lucknow:The BSP on Sunday announced the name of Sanghmitra Maurya,daughter of party general secretary Swami Prasad Maurya,as its candidate for Mainpuri Lok Sabha seat for the next parliamentary election.
Mainpuri seat is currently represented by Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav. Sanghmitras name was announced at a function held in Mainpuri which was attended by her father,BSP general secretary Naseemuddin Siddiqui,Rajya Sabha MP S P Singh Baghel and MLC Sunil Kumar Chittor.
Son of IPS officer kills self
Lucknow:The son of an IPS officer reportedly committed suicide by shooting himself at his house in Gudamba police station area on Sunday. According to police,Parthmohan (24),son of IPS officer Chitrangad,who is currently posted as SP,Trade Tax,shot himself at his chest by a single barrel breech loading gun at their house in Kalyanpur locality of Gudamba area around 2.30 pm. Police said Parthmohan was being treated for mental illness.
Balmiki Jayanti is a public holiday
Lucknow:The state has declared a public holiday on the occasion of Balmiki Jayanti on Monday. All government offices and educational institutions,except banks and treasuries,will be closed on Monday. General administration department secretary Prashant Trivedi said Balmiki Jayanti has been included in the list of public holidays under Non-Negotiable Instruments Act,1881.
Curfew continues in parts of Faizabad
Lucknow:Curfew continued in two riot-affected police station areas of Faizabad for the fourth consecutive day. Police said no new untoward incident was reported. Faizabad SSP Ramit Sharma said more than 70 persons had been arrested for the riots that broke out during the Durga puja procession on Wednesday. The riots had claimed one life in Pura Kalandar police station area in rural Faizabad. He said the curfew is continuing in city Kotwali and Cantonment police station areas,adding that the city has been divided into two zones and six sectors for better monitoring.
