Amid reports of mismanagement in around 3,000 examination centres in several districts across the state, examinations for Class X and XII of the Uttar Pradesh Board is set begin on Thursday.

Reports reaching the Board’s head office suggested that nearly one lakh students are yet to receive admit cards. While some centres have not received answersheets and desk slips, thousands of teachers have been given duties as invigilators at more than one centre. Moreover, retired teachers and even some who have died have been listed as invigilators.

In all, there are 8,700 examination centres in the 70 districts of the state. Out of 51.60 lakh students appearing for the Boards, while 36.30 lakh will appear for High School examinations,15.30 lakh examinees will take the Intermediate exams, said a Board official.

“The teachers of Kulbhaskar Ashram Intermediate College,Allahabad have been allotted duties at three centres at the same time. Now,they are in a fix where to go and whom to report,” said Principal Devi Prashad Kuwar.

An official from the District Inspectors of Schools (DIOS) office said: “Ravi Tiwari,a teacher in an inter-college in Meja had died last year in a road accident. The Board has included his name as an invigilator. When was informed of the matter, his name was deleted from the list.”

The Board officials, however, denied that they were at fault. According to an official, the DIOS were responsible for the distribution of admit cards, answersheets and desk slips.

Secretary of the UP Board,Prabha Tripathi, said the Board has sent all examination materials to the four regional offices a week ago and claimed there have been no complaints. “If there is any irregularity, the regional secretaries and the DIOS would be held responsible,” she added.
