BJP leader Kirit Somaiya,on Monday, reiterated that there was a scam of Rs 3000 crore in power purchase by UP Power Corporation Limited(UPPCL) for which he had earlier lodged a complaint with UP Lokayukta. Addressing a press conference, the BJP national secretary said Chief Minister Mayawati should explain why UPPCL bought electricity at higher than prevalent market rate. Why all information including the terms and conditions of the agreement, tendering process, etc were not disclosed to public? Somaiya asked.
He alleged the UPPCL purchased 442 lakh units per day in July at Rs 4.70 per unit from these private companies, sacrificing more than 700 MW power from Central governments Northern Grid which was available around Rs 2 per unit. But in October, during the time of power crisis, the UPPCL did not get power at the rate of Rs 4.70 per unit from these companies,he said.
In reference to the directive from the Lokayukta to submit the complaint in the matter in a prescribed format,Somaiya has sought two days time.
Somaiya had lodged the complaint in the matter with UP Lokayukta on September 26.
