The BJP is going to declare its first list of candidates for the Assembly elections in the second week of December. Sources said the list will have around 150 names. On the other seats,BJP will declare candidates after finalising its pre-poll alliance with Janata Dal(U) and Janwadi Party. This was stated by BJPs UP chief Surya Pratap Shahi in Rampur on Sunday.
Sources said that the first list would include sitting MLAs,some runner-ups of the 2007 Assembly elections and new faces. Also,the party would finalise seat sharing with JD(U) and Janwadi Party after the end of the Jan Swabhiman Yatras in UP and Advanis Jan Chetna Yatra,a senior party leader said.
Former party president Rajnath Singh and national vice-president Kalraj Mishra are leading the two Jan Swabhiman Yatras that will conclude in Ayodhya on November 17. The Jan Chenta Yatra would will conclude in New Delhi on November 20.
BJPs first list of candidate was originally expected in September,but the party postponed the announcement,fearing that this could lead to bickering which,in turn,could cast a shadow on the yatras.
Shahi visited Rampur to discuss preparations for L K Advanis Jan Chenta Yatra that will reach here on November 19 after entering UP on November 18. Advani will address rallies in Rampur,Moradabad and Ghaziabad during his two-day tour of UP. It will be the second visit of his yatra in UP.
Kalyan salvo against Advani
Lucknow: Former BJP leader Kalyan Singh on Sunday said that his former party chief L K Advani should be chargesheeted in the cash-for-vote scam and an FIR be lodged against him. Both Advani and his former aide Sudheendra Kulkarni were involved in the scam,he said,adding the drama of sting operation was a cover-up. The BJP is neck-deep in corruption and has no moral right to raise the issue,he said.
BJP will oppose religion-based quota: Rajnath
Moradabad: BJP president Rajnath Singh on Sunday said his party favoured reservation on socio-economic basis and would steadfastly oppose any religion-based quota. The BJP favours reservation on socio-economic basis, he said at a function here.
