Ten months after former BJP UP general secretary (organisation) Nagendra Nath was shifted to Bihar from Uttar Pradesh following allegations of favouritism and malpractices in distribution of election tickets,he is set to return to play a vital role in the upcoming UP Assembly elections.
The party has appointed Nath in-charge of Yuva Morcha in UP for the Assembly elections. Sources said Nath will motivate and train the youths about RSS views and their importance for the BJP.
Nath had been state general secretary (organisation) in UP for around seven years. He was shifted to Bihar in the same capacity in February earlier this year.
Nath discreetly paid a visit to the BJP headquarters in Lucknow recently and gave tips to young workers regarding the election campaign in a closed-door meeting.
From December,he will be in UP to hold meetings with the youth wing and participate in Navmatdata Sammelans,a progamme that Yuva Morcha is organising to woo voters between 18 and 23 years of age.
Nath told The Indian Express over phone,I will be in UP regularly from December first week. I have to motivate the youth wing and organise mass contact programmes and public meetings.
Sourcs said that Nath,a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) man,was given charge of UP following the suggestion of Sanjay Joshi, former national general secretary (organisation) who is currently orchestrating the party activities ahead of Assembly polls.
In his first meeting with the Yuva Morcha,Nath asked party workers to form committees of at least 10 active members at the booth level in every Assembly constituency. These committees will conduct mass contact programmes at the booth level and appeal to voters, particularly youth,to vote in favour of BJP, said a party leader.
Nath is believed to have a strong hold on youths. He had been organisation secretary in Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Parishads (ABVP) for several years.
During his tenure in UP,some party leaders had accused him of promoting ABVP workers in the BJP mainstream. The party brass had to transfer him after some party workers distributed pamphlets demanding his removal during the party executive meeting in September 2010. These workers accused Nath of distributing tickets after taking money.
