The opposition BJP on Friday accused the ruling Congress of misusing CBI for political manoeuvres while it kept silent on the BSPs allegation that NDA misused the investigating agency against Mayawati as the case goes back to the time when NDA was in power at Centre.
This is a serious indictment of the UPA government which has turned the investigative agency as a tool to garner political support for its survival, BJP spokesperson Tarun Vijay told reporters reacting to the Supreme Courts verdict. The party, however, later skirted a response on BSPs charge that BJP misused the CBI to frame her in a false case of disproportionate assets. Let us read the judgment carefully, senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha said at a press conference.
Soon after the verdict,BSP general secretary and Mayawatis legal counsel Satish Misra said,In this case it has been proved that CBI is used for political gains. CBI was first used by the then BJP government at the Centre and the case was pursued by the present government at the Centre. Every single paisa in Mayawatijis account is accounted for. But Sinha dismissed the allegation against the BJP-led NDA: Let me make it clear, the CBI worked independent of any political influence during the NDA regime.
Verdict has nothing to do with politics, says Khurshid
NEW DELHI: Law Minister Salman Khurshid on Friday said the Supreme Court order quashing the disproportionate assets case against BSP leader Mayawati has nothing to do with politics. It is not correct to link it with politics. We all must respect the Supreme Court… It is very unfair to say that it has anything to do with the politics of the country. The Supreme Court is an autonomous, independent and highly respected institution of our country, he said. It is a constitutional institution and the Supreme Court decides according to its wisdom. Khurshid further said that the order should not be linked with any political development in the country. I think to link it with any other motive,or any other relationship,or any other event happening in the country will not be fair at all. Please respect the Supreme Court, he said. He was replying to a question on BSPs support for UPAs presidential nominee.
CBIs defeat, not clean chit to Maya: SP
NEW DELHI: BSPs rival Samajwadi Party, whose chief Mulayam Singh Yadav is also facing a CBI inquiry in a disproportionate assets case,on Friday termed the Supreme Court verdict in the Mayawati case as the defeat of CBI and not a clean chit to Mayawati.
We will have to look at the judgment and see what the Supreme Court has said, because what I can see is there is no clean chit. This judgment is against CBI and not in favour of Mayawati. This judgment has also shown that CBI doesnt work professionally, but it functions politically, said SP leader Shahid Siddiqui.
Boost for party,says BSP
NEW DELHI: BSP leaders welcomed the Supreme Court judgment in the Mayawati case and said the party will start preparing for the Lok Sabha elections with a new vigour to take on the ruling SP in Uttar Pradesh.
The verdict indicates that BSPs political opponents had wrongly framed Behenji. She has always worked for the welfare of the downtrodden and under her leadership the BSP will continue its movement for the uplift of the disadvantaged sections of our society, BSPs leader in the Lok Sabha Dara Singh Chauhan said.
BSPs deputy leader in the Lok Sabha Baliram said the verdict re-inforced what the BSP and Mayawati has maintained all along.
