A 35-year-old man,accused in a case of gold embezzlement,allegedly stabbed himself with a pair of scissors after he was arrested in Lucknow on Saturday night. Manish Verma a historysheeter was arrested after the police procured a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against him.
A resident of the Talkatora area,Verma is the maternal uncle of one Rahul named in a gold embezzlement case lodged at the Thakurganj police station on May 27.
According to complainant Akhilesh Vishkarma,he had given 750 gm of gold to Rahul for making jewellery. But Rahul escaped with the gold and was arrested on July 21. During interrogation,Rahul said that he had given the gold to Manish. We moved court and procured a NBW against Manish, said Thakurganj police station in-charge Abhishek Sirohi.
On Saturday night,the police raided Vermas house and arrested him. During questioning,Manish said that he had kept the gold inside a box in his bedroom, said Sirohi. When he was taken to his bedroom,Verma took a pair of scissors kept in cupboard and stabbed himself,he added. A seriously injured Verma was rushed to the Trauma Center where doctors stated his condition to be stable. Manish is still in police custody, said Sirohi.
