The Aligarh Muslim University Students Union (AMUSU) and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP),the students wing of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS),are at loggerheads over Khalid Mujahids death. An accused in the 2007 serial blasts in Lucknow and Faizabad courts,Khalid died recently while returning to the Lucknow district jail after attending court proceedings. ABVP members hit the streets in Aligarh against AMUSU on Saturday,a day after AMU students took out a march on campus and gave the district administration a memorandum addressed to the President, demanding a CBI inquiry into Khalids death and termination of administration and police officials who were responsible for Khalids security. They also demanded compensation and government job for Khalids family. AMUSU alleged Khalid was murdered and the SP government was responsible. A day later,ABVP members condemned AMUSUs move, took out a march against AMUSU outside the campus and burnt effigies of the union at Ramlila Maidan. In reply,AMUSU on Sunday condemned the ABVPs act and warned of retaliatory protests if its members did not change their views. ABVP leader Manvendra Pratap Singh said,AMUSU paid homage to terror accused Khalid and demanded compensation for his family. Their act is a kind of sedition. Singh said AMUSU had not paid homage to Lance Naik Hemraj, who was killed at the Pakistan border, and Sarabjit Singh, who died in a jail in Pakistan. But AMU students took out peace marches for terrorists Ajmal Kasab and Afzal Guru and the university administration did not stop them. AMUSU officiating president Tausif Alam said Khalid was innocent as per Nimesh Commission report and he was murdered in police custody. We will continue our agitation in support of Khalid, he said.
