AMU students protest Khalid death

Slam SP govt for ‘doing nothing’,seek CBI probe.

Students of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) today took out a protest march against the death of terror accused Khalid Mujahid. They were demanding imposition of President’s rule in the state and sent a memorandum to the President Pranab Mukherjee in this regard.

Students also paid homage to Khalid who died last week while being brought to Lucknow district jail after attending court proceedings. He was accused in the 2007 serial blasts in Lucknow and Faizabad courts.

Under the banner of AMU Students’ Union (AMUSU),the students marched from the Jama Masjid on the campus to university circle and gave the district administration a memorandum addressed to the President.

In the memorandum, the students have demanded a CBI inquiry into the case and termination of services of the administration and police officials who were responsible for Khalid’s security. They also demanded compensation and government job for Khalid’s family.

“AMU students are angry with the Akhilesh Yadav government following this particular incident of merciless killing of Khalid,” the students have stated in the memorandum.

They held an open meeting at Jama Masjid after Friday’s prayer and alleged that the SP government has failed to fulfill the promises it made for the welfare of Muslim youths before the Assembly elections.

AMUSU officiating president Tausif Alam, who led the march, said,“Khalid has been murdered and we are not satisfied with the action that the Akhilesh Yadav government has taken in this case so far.”

Tausif said that not a single Muslim minister of the Akhilesh government has visited Khalid’s house so far and no help has been provided to his family yet. “Muslim leaders of the Samajwadi Party like Azam Khan have only used Muslims as a votebank and are doing nothing for their welfare,” he said.

“Despite being exonerated by the Nimesh Commission,Khalid Mujahid was not released,” Alam stated, adding that students will launch an agitation if their demands were not met.

Addressing the gathering at Jama Masjid,a research scholar,Rehan Akhtar, said innocent Muslim youths were still being arrested and implicated in fake cases. He said 32 communal riots had occurred within a year of the SP government — something that had not occurred in the five-year term of the last government.
