AMU postpones exams for student polls

Aligarh Muslim University has postponed all ongoing semester examinations scheduled up to December 10 on account of student union elections to be held during this period.

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has postponed all ongoing semester examinations scheduled up to December 10 on account of student union elections to be held during this period.

The decision to postpone the examinations was taken at a meeting of deans of faculties and principals of colleges, presided over by Vice-Chancellor P K Abdul Azis.

AMU spokesperson Zeeshan Ahmad said that as the dates of examinations were clashing with the election schedule,a number of students had demanded that the university postpone either the examinations or the polls. The examinations now will be held from December 14 onwards,he added.

The university had dissolved the students union in May with the end of the academic session. Since then, student leaders have been demanding elections on the campus. Some of them had staged a dharna at the vice-chancellor’s residence.

The university has already started the poll process with the release of the voters’ list.

Polling is on December 10.
