A rare forensic test, conducted for the first time in UP,has proved the case of alleged killing of three boys in Agra was actually a case of drowning. The test was ordered after two post-mortem reports came up with different conclusions, the first saying the boys had died from drowning and the second saying the cause of the death could not be ascertained.
In the test, the body is scanned for presence of diatoms which are microscopic plants found in all water bodies. If a person dies from drowning, then diatoms are found in the entire body, including the bone marrow. But if the person was dead before he was thrown in water, then diatoms are found at most in the lungs.
In this case, the Forensic Science Laboratory at Lucknow tested the femur bones of boys Vishal Yadav,Vishal Sharma and Rahul Sharma of Saket Nagar of Agra whose bodies were found in the Yamuna on October 16 last year, and detected the presence of diatoms. The Agra police got the forensic report on Wednesday.
The boys families had alleged the victims were kidnapped and killed before being dumped in Yamuna. They, along with local politicians, staged protests for action against 14-year-old Ajay who, along with the victims, had gone to play near the river. They alleged that Ajays family was in the business of selling body parts and had, therefore, killed the boys. A mob attacked Ajays house and damaged it.
On a complaint filed by the boys families,a case of murder and kidnapping was registered against Ajay, his younger brother Chhote (8),father Vishwanth Singh and mother Preeti Singh. Facing a hostile situation, the Singhs left home and are yet to return. After the second postmortem report stated that cause of death could not be ascertained, the police approached Agras CMO for help. On his advice, they contacted an expert in forensic medicine who recommended the diatoms test.
After receiving the FSL report,we have informed the boys families and the political leaders who were leading the protests that the cause of death is drowning and nothing is left to probe, said Station Officer of Atmatudaula Ashok Kumar Singh.
He said they would approach Ajays parents and ask them to return home. If needed,we will provide them security, said Ashok Singh.
