A team of the Allahabad High Court Bar Association (AHCBA) on Tuesday visited the Shishu Bal Griha,a state-run orphanage,at Shiv Kuti here and got initiated cleaning up work there. The director (Child Welfare) of the state government also visited the orphanage and took stock of the situation.
On Monday,the Allahabad high court,taking cognisance of a public interest litigation filed by a group of law students,had directed the director concerned to personally visit the centre and be present before it on June 9 with the action-taken report
The AHCBA had told the court on Monday that it would adopt the centre and undertake measures to improve the situation there. The PIL had alleged the centre was in a pitiable condition with 48 children kept in two rooms without any ventilation.
A team of Allahabad Municipal Corporation visited the site and carried out pest-control tasks,said secretary,AHCBA,Anil Tiwari,adding the clogged drains and dirty bathrooms were also being cleaned up. He added the director,Child Welfare,also made a list of nearly a dozen items that would be purchased on an urgent basis. The children there would be given new mattresses.
Further,a team of two doctors visited the orphanage and at least half-a-dozen children,needing treatment for various illnesses,were shifted to hospital.
The AHCBA team,which had also visited the site on Monday,alleged that at least six employees were found missing from service and their list has been handed over to the district probationary officer for further action,said Tiwari.
Tiwari added the AHCBA too would present its findings before the court.
