Accidents spark violence,two dead

Tension prevailed in Etawah on Wednesday following two separate road accidents,resulting in the death of two persons.

Irked over the incident,locals damaged public property and pelted stones at the police as they attempted to bring the situation under control.

The first incident took place at the Kanpur-Etawah highway near Manikpur area where a youth died on the spot in a car-bike collision. The victim,Joginder,was a resident of Ekta colony. According to the police,a car,headed towards Lucknow,hit Joginder who was on his bicycle. Thereafter,he fell unconscious and was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

Irked over the incident,the locals started pelting stones at the passerby vehicles and the police team stationed near the accident spot. Mata Prasad Saloni,Circle Officer (city),said: “After the accident,the car driver and its occupants left the vehicle and escaped.” He added that they had seized the car,which has been damaged.

The second accident took place at Etawah’s Civil Lines area where five-year-old Sanan Nayak,a kindergarten student,was hit by a tempo. The victim was crossing the road when he was hit by the tempo. He died on the spot. The tempo driver left the vehicle and escaped. Irked locals set ablaze the tempo. “We are registering a case against unidentified persons for creating ruckus on the road,” said F S Jafari,in-charge of Civil Lines police station.
