Absentee boss keeps students in dark

The regional office of the CBSE in the city,catering to more than two lakh students and 1,500 schools in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand,could not provide even basic details of the Class X results that were declared here today.

While the regional officer,who was in Delhi,said that the details would be shared by Thursday morning,CBSE chairman Vineet Joshi said all the information regarding the results would be put up on the CBSE website. However,till as late as 8.30 pm,no details were available.

The results for the Allahabad region,along with that of Ajmer and Panchkula,were to be announced by 4 pm. However,those waiting for the details at the CBSE office here were told that the regional officer was not in town. After making some efforts,the staff in the office put up their hands expressing helplessness. They claimed,however,that by Thursday morning all details would be available.

Personnel at the office said that regional manager Rajbir Singh had gone to Delhi and would be available on Thursday. When contacted,Singh simply said: “It will not be possible to share the details in my absence. I will be there tomorrow.”

The CBSE’s Allahabad region,which covers Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand,had at least 1,541 schools participating in the Class X examinations. More than 2.25 lakh students had applied. In the Class XII examination,the results for which were declared recently,more than 1.4 lakh students took the examination from Allahabad. This accounted for nearly 19 per cent of the total number of students appearing for the CBSE Class 12 examination.

When told that there was nobody to share the details of the examinations,Joshi said: “it is due to this that we are trying to put all the information on the CBSE website’¿ main page. If it is not already there,it will be available in about 45 minutes.” However,till late tonight,the website only showed the press release announcing Delhi region results,which were declared on May 31.

Anxious students and school authorities had to wait for a couple of hours before the results began appearing on the website. “We were waiting since 4 pm. But the results began appearing only around 6 pm. After that,however,we faced fewer problems,”said Pramod Tiwari,vice-principal,Army School,New Cantonment.
