17-year-old girl commits suicide in Mahanagar

A 17-year-old girl,Srishti Jaiswal,allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her home in Lucknow’s Mahanagar locality on Wednesday afternoon.

Srishti,a student of Class XI at Arya Kanya Inter College,left no suicide note.

The incident came to light after her two elder sisters returned home from college. When despite several knocks on the door,they did not get any response,they broke open the door with the help of neighbours and found the body.

“When I reached spot,the body had been placed on the ground,” said Sub-Inspector Sabajeet Singh. “I was told that she was alone in the house as her mother Rekha had gone to her parents home in Barabanki.” Her father,Shyamji Lal,an auto driver,had gone for work and her three sisters and brother had gone to college.

Singh said Srishti’s family does not have a clue why she took the extreme step.

In another case,a 17-year-old boy,Munnu Pandey,hanged himself from a tree near his house at Itaunja late on Tuesday night.

Police said Munnu had committed suicide after his father Govanand Pandey,a farmer,scolded him for purchasing a mobile phone worth Rs 4,000.

Munnu was a resident of Panditpurva village under Itaunja police circle. Police said on Tuesday,he took the money from his mother and bought a mobile phone.

In the evening,when his father scolded him,Munnu left the house in a huff.

Late at night,when he failed to return,the family began a search and the body was found.
