If you like reading while sipping on wine, munching on tidbits and surrounded by other bibliophiles, then a book club is an answer to your prayers. Wednesday afternoon saw Delhi socialites gather at the classy Olive Beach restaurant for the launch of the Busy Book Club,an initiative of the Busybabee enterprise, run by Mandira Koirala. When I lived in San Francisco ,there were many book clubs and it is a great place to hang out, network, educate yourself about authors and books, and get a signed copy as well, says Koirala, adding that the club would invite authors every month for interactions.
For its first meeting, the club saw an intimate afternoon with Advaita Kala (picture),best-selling author of Almost Single. Mandira is an old friend from boarding school and I found the concept very interesting. Such clubs can make reading a social activity,as opposed to just reading alone, said Kala, who is excited about her latest project,a Bollywood script. My first movie,Anjaana Anjaan has been directed by Siddharth Anand, with Priyanka Chopra and Ranbir Kapoor in the lead. It will release next year.
The event was in association with Olive Beach and Sula Vineyards, and Koirala has tied-up with publishing house HarperCollins for next months meeting. Our next book is Above Average by Amitabha Bagchi, says Koirala.
There is no fixed membership fee as Koirala is waiting for the club to become more popular.
