After Surendranath College in Kolkata, the feud within Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad (TMCCP) members has reached another college in the city. Two factions of the outfit clashed at North City College forcing the college authorities to ask School Education Minister Bratya Basu, who used to once teach Bengali in the college,to intervene.
Tension started when a group of former students, who are members of TMCCP tried to enter the college. Members of the incumbent students union, who too belong to TMCCP,tried to stop them from entering leading to a scuffle. Police were also called in.
Basu assured the college authorities that all protection will be provided to them. Later,he said such stray incidents of students clash may happen as there are 600 colleges in the state. He,however, added that the government will take necessary action.
He also said that the managing committee of the college will be restructured and plans are afoot to restructure other managing committees of the college to curb such stray incidents.
Mukul Kanti Manna, the principal of the college, said that if such incidents happen again then it would be difficult to conduct university examinations slated to begin from May 11. He has invited both the TMCCP groups to attend Thursdays governing body to resolve the issue.
