When the family was trying to take the body for post-mortem on Wednesday, a scuffle broke out between BJP and TMC workers. As per reports, BJP leader Rahul Sinha went to the hospital to meet the girl’s family. At the same time, a group of TMC leaders led by the party’s Cooch Behar district president Abhijit De Bhowmick reached there. Seeing them, TMC supporters allegedly started shouting ‘go back’, which led to an alleged scuffle between the two groups.
“The police brought the situation under control and sent the body for post-mortem examination,” said a police officer.
Bhowmick alleged that the accused belonged to the BJP and CPI (M).
“Rahul Sinha came here to shield the culprits, but he cannot save them,” said .
Reacting to the allegation, Sinha said, “We came here to express our solidarity…The victim’s aunt was a TMC candidate in the panchayat election. She is being intimidated to put the blame on the BJP.”
