While you might tire of Shah Rukh Khan or chocolates, childrens films are small wonders that have never failed to entertain, irrespective of your age and its attendant choices. So,the 9th International Childrens Film Festival, organized by the Cine Central, comes as quite a heat buster this summer, for children and adults alike. The childrens film festival was first organized by the Cine Central way back in 1979. The eighties saw a couple of more editions but the festival, which was once the toast of the citys film buff had to be discontinued due to financial crunch and several other restricting factors.
However, efforts to regularize the festival were taken up by the organization in 2005. Since then, the festival had been making more or less regular appearances. This years line up includes around 25 films from 11 countries that include India.
While the city will be treated to the Hollywood favourites Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda,a bouquet of films from countries like Croatia,Iran,Israel,Italy,France,Iran,Czech Republic and Netherlands will also be screened.
The range of experiences that the line-up of films offers is mindboggling making the festival particularly interesting. Mark Osbornes Kung Fu Panda is a heartwarming underdog-coming-up-trumps story about a Kung Fu loving obese panda, who strangely is chosen to save his country from the wrath of a vindictive Kung Fu expert. On the other hand,Pieter Kuijpers Horror Bus,a Netherland film is a dark gripping fantastical tale about a child up against sinister otherworldly forces. However, the surprise package includes two Japanese animation films called The Girl Leapt Through Time and Nitaboh.
The festival will be on at Nandan and EZCC Purbashree auditorium from May 24-29
