Burdwan: Three persons suspected to be dacoits were lynched by local people near Godda area of Burdwan town,a senior police officer said on Tuesday. Superintendent of Police of Burdwan SMH Mirza told PTI that some suspected dacoits had assembled in Godda area Monday late night to commit dacoity. The local people caught hold of three of them while the others fled. They thrashed the three suspected dacoits severely till they were rescued by police in a serious condition and rushed to hospital,the SP said adding that the three suspected dacoits succumbed to injuries in the hospital early Tuesday morning. The three have been identified as Karthik Karmakar (40),Nimai Swarnakar (30) and Dharmendra Singh (30),Mirza said.

Jute mill staff protest work suspension
Howrah: Angry workers agitated at the gate of Delta Jute Mill of Manikpur near here Tuesday after a notice of suspension of work was hung on the gate. The police said the workers of the jute mill agitated after seeing the notice of suspension of work. However,the police did not need to intervene as the workers left the jute mill after a while,sources said. Officials said nearly 3,000 permanent staff and temporary workers of the jute mill became jobless as a result of the declaration.

Kolkata: Industrialist Sanjiv Goenka,Chairman of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group,has been awarded the coveted Honorary Life Fellowship 2011 by the All India Management Association (AIMA),the apex body of professional management in the country. The award was conferred on Tuesday in Mumbai at the inauguration of the 39th AIMA National Management Convention. The citation described Goenka as a new-age industrialist and an outstanding business leader.
