For some Potterphiles (a Harry Potter fanatic) the party was over for them exactly two years ago when the last installment of the series,Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was published. The films were just a consolation,a feel-good patch to cope with the withdrawal effect of not having any Harry Potter book to look forward to. All the Potter films that I have watched so far were just an appendage of the real thing for me. They were timed around the release of the books and I would watch them to get myself excited about the impending books, says Arunlekha Sengupta,a 24-years-old resident of Tollygunj and a Potter-addict.
But that doesnt mean Sengupta will not watch the Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince when it releases in Kolkata. I will watch the movie. No two ways about it,but I dont think I will manage to get myself as excited as I was about the last few films, she confesses.
Those were the heydays for Potterphiles. JK Rowling was still in the process of penning down the dark and twisting path that would conclude with Voldermorts downfall. I remember how I would carefully watch the film to detect any hints about the future of the characters, says Abhijit Das,an ex-student of St Xaviers College. But when Das and Sengupta will watch The Half Blood Prince, their interest will be strictly perfunctory.
I will only watch it to find out if my imagination matches with the visuals. There is hardly any surprise element, says Das.
Moreover,The Half Blood Prince the book, brought to end all speculations about possible romantic entanglements between the lead characters Harry Potter,Ron Weasely and Hermione Granger. I was really hoping that Harry and Hermione get together, but that obviously didnt happen. Somehow, the chemistry between Daniel Radcliffe ( who plays Harry Potter) and Emma Watson ( who plays Hermione Granger) misled me, says 20-year-old Chitralekha Chatterjee,an airhostess with Kingfisher Airlines.
Now that most Harry Potter fans know the fate of the characters, they will see them in a new light. I dont think I will be able to see Freds character without shedding a few tears, says Rajarshi Bose,an aspiring media professional.
Yet,in a way The Half Blood Prince is an acid test for many Harry Potter fans. I always wondered if I would completely lose interest in the films once the last book is published. But you know what? I may be not as excited about it as I was about the last film but Im definitely going to queue up in front of the box office this Friday, sums up Bose.
