Mamata asks Pranab to clarify Centre’s stand on violence in state

Expressing her displeasure at the spurt in violence in West Bengal,Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today called up Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee to know if the ruling CPM was causing violence in the state with support from the UPA government at the Centre.

Banerjee said the Centre should come clean on the issue and the measures they are taking against the Left Front government for unleashing violence in the state.

“I do not survive in politics at anybody’s mercy and asked him (Mukherjee) if they have lent support to the state government in spreading violence in the state by CPM,” Banerjee told the reporters.

TMC sources said Congress silence on her demand for early Assembly in the state has angered Banerjee. Recently, the CPM has launched a massive negative campaign against Banerjee and the performance of Railways. The ruling party has adopted a strategy to halt ambitious railway projects in the state.

“If CPM has the courage,I challenge them to hold elections tomorrow. I am sure people will throw them out,” said Banerjee.

She claimed,a six-volume report detailing the ongoing violence in Bengal has been sent to the Central government to establish her demand for Centre’s intervention in maintaining law and order in the state.
