Sudip Banerjee, Anubrata Mondal dropped as TMC district unit chiefs in rejig

According to sources in the TMC, the party implemented the change in 18 organisational districts across the state. In a post on Facebook, the TMC wrote, “AITC, under the guidance and inspiration of Hon’ble Chairperson Smt. Mamata Banerjee, is pleased to announce the list of new district presidents & chairpersons in the state of West Bengal.”

After Anubrata Mondal was arrested by the CBI in connection with its probe into a cattle smuggling racket in 2022, the TMC set up a district core committee to look after organisational tasks in the district. However, Mondal remained the party’s district president.

Now, however, deputy speaker Ashish Banerjee has been named as chairperson of Birbhum organisational district and a nine-member correspondents’ committee has also been constituted to oversee Birbhum district. Mondal was made a member of the core committee along with Kajal Sheikh, who is considered a rival of his.

A similar core committee has also been set up for North Kolkata organisational district, with Sudip Banerjee as its chairperson. Nine members of the core committee are Atin Ghosh, Jiban Saha, Nayana Bandyopadhyay, Paresh Paul, Sashi Panja, Supti Pandey, Swapan Samaddar, Swarnakamal Saha and Vivek Gupta.

The TMC is yet to pick a chairperson and president for Barasat organisational district and a president for Darjeeling (plain) district.

Meanwhile, Tapash Roy, who was Baranagar MLA and joined the BJP before the 2024 Lok Sabha election, has been replaced by newly elected MP from Barrackpore, Partha Bhowmick, as the party’s president in Dumdum-Barrackpore organisational district.
