To provide an impetus to research work in the field of genetics,the state government will be setting up National Institute of Biomedical Genomics (NIBG) at Kalyani with the help of Centre.
The institute will come up by 2011 on a 30-acre government land already identified by us, said state Health Minister Surya Kanta Mishra. The institute will provide short-term diploma and masters courses in biomedical genomics. Of the total Rs 450 crore given by the Centre for the project,Rs 250 crore has been kept aside for conducting research in the field of cancer. Institutes like this will help to find out the genes responsible for cancer,said Mishra.
Basu out of ICU
Former chief minister and veteran CPM leader Jyoti Basu has been shifted to a cabin on Tuesday from the ICU. According to AMRI hospital authorities,his condition is stable and he has been kept on normal diet.
