Sourav Ganguly to be Bengal’s new brand ambassador: ‘Thank you so much, Didi’

(Express Photo by Partha Paul) Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday announced former BCCI president and Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly as the new brand ambassador of West Bengal. Ganguly would be replacing actor Shah Rukh Khan.
Speaking at the seventh edition of Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS), Banerjee said, “You know Sourav Ganguly is here with us today. He is a very popular figure and comes from the young generation. I want to inform him as the Bengal brand ambassador. I will request him to accept this and you cannot say no.”
Ganguly was present at BGBS’ inaugural session at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre in the city. The chief minister also gestured to Ganguly to take a piece of paper from her, signaling that he has accepted the honour. The former Indian skipper readily accepted the honour from the chief minister.

“What has stood out over the years is the support I got from the state government, especially from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Whenever I SMS her, I get a response from her in a minute. Very rarely, there is a delay in her response. I am so touched with the care and affection she has given me. Thank you so much Didi for inviting me here,” said Ganguly.
