The Detective Department of the Kolkata police has started questioning city businessmen who have a stake in the Stephen Court property.

The Detective Department (DD) of the Kolkata police has started questioning city businessmen who have a stake in the Stephen Court property.

The sleuths called Parasmal Lodha,a city businessman, yesterday and interrogated him for over four hours, according to police sources in the Lalbazar.

“We have started with Lodha but we would like to question each and every person having any involvement with the Stephen Court. Apart form the directors and trustees, the employees of the Stephen Court Pvt. Ltd may also be interrogated,” said Gautam Mohan Chakraborty,Commissioner of Kolkata police.

A senior officer of the DD said that Lodha has denied any role in the construction of the two additional floors on the original structure of the British-built Stephen court building.

As per official records,Stephen Court Limited has 73 shareholders. “We have started our investigation. We are receiving several kinds of information about the litigation that continued to persist in the Stephen Court case. Based on the information we will summon the persons with whom we need to talk. However, the details of the interrogation cannot be divulged for the sake of the investigation,” said Damayanti Sen,Deputy Commissioner,DD.

Lodha, meanwhile, said,“A senior police officer called me up and spoke with me for 15-20 minutes. He asked me to help them by giving any detailed information related to Stephen Court. However, whatever I could tell them, they already had those information.” He further added,“I do not have any stake at Stephen Court. I was never directly involved in the additional construction at the Stephen Court building. I was the director of the Stephen Court Private Ltd for a year. I joined the board of directors in 1983 and left the board in 1984. So I do not know when and how the additional floors were added to the building.”
