RG Kar ransacked for ‘negligence’

Tension gripped RG Kar Medical College today after relatives of a deceased patient went on a rampage alleging medial negligence.

Tension gripped RG Kar Medical College today after relatives of a deceased patient went on a rampage alleging medial negligence.

A resident of Bhadreswar in Hooghly,Sukumar Roy was admitted in the medicine department yesterday. He was suffering from cerebral hemorrhage and died today.

Roy’s relatives alleged that the hospital staff did not provide an oxygen cylinder and mask on time,and that oxygen supply was lacking. They also said Roy was kept in the verandah as there was no bed.

The relatives gathered local youths and gheraoed the office of the deputy superintendent in the hospital. They even demanded punishment for the nurses who were on duty today.

Dr Siddhartha Neogi,deputy superintendent of the hospital,admitted the lapses on the part of the hospital and said that the relatives of the patient had filed a written complaint. A committee has been formed to probe the matter.

An FIR is yet to be filed.
