At a meeting today with all the political parties, state CEO Sunil Kumar Gupta requested the representatives of the political parties to refrain from instigating violence after the declaration of poll results on Friday. He asked them to restrain their supporters and activists from indulging in violence.
An appeal has been made to all political parties to refrain form holding any procession,or holding assembly of people without specific permission from the competent authority, said Gupta.
As the model code of conduct imposed by the Election Commission would exist even after the declaration of results, the political parties should obey the directives on holding rallies beyond May 13,said Gupta. The Election process would be over on May 18,he said.
After the all-party meeting Mukul Roy,Union Shipping minister and the Trinamool Congress leader, said the move would help check the post-poll violence.
Six persons have died in poll-related violence since March 1 when the poll notification was issued, said Gupta.
Gupta said 144 Central forces teams would be deployed in the state till May 23. He further said the Congress proposal to extend the stay of Central forces till May 31 would be forwarded to the Election Commission.
