WEST BENGAL Pradesh Youth Congress workers on Saturday staged a protest at Esplanade area here against the disqualification of party leader Rahul Gandhi as a Member of Parliament. Holding party flags, the protesters shouted slogans against the BJP-led Centre and denounced the move to disqualify the Congress leader from Parliament. The workers also put up tyres on Esplanade crossing. The police, however, soon removed the protesters from the area and lifted the road blockade.

Earlier in the day, Congress workers set tyres on fire and put up a road blockade at Durgapur in Pashchim Bardhaman Burdwan district. The police later lifted the road blockade.

Meanwhile, sources in the party said that all districts will organise a ‘satyagraha’ at Gandhi Statue (preferably near district administrative head quarters), from 10 am to 5 pm on Sunday to mark their protest.
In Kolkata, a similar protest will be held in front of Gandhi Statue on Mayo Road.
