A rare treat is lined up for the city today. Five the of the worlds best-known violinists are preforming at the GD Birla Sabhagar for the Lakshminarayana Music Festival. Maestro L Subramaniam is participating in the concert along with the likes of Lokyo from Russia,Catherine Chen from Norway and Mark O Connor from the USA. Known as the ‘God of Indian violin’,Dr. L. Subramaniam’s career has spanned over five decades and many genres of violin playing,although has always remained true to his roots as a South Indian classical violinist. As a performer and composer,his collaborations read like a who’s who of world music,and he has released over 150 albums.“I find nothing more inspiring than the music making of my very great colleague Subramaniam.  Each time I listen to him,I am carried away in wonderment,” the late legendary violinist Lord Yehudi Menuhin once said.The Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival (LGMF) was established in 1992 by Dr. L. Subramaniam and Viji Subramaniam,in memory of his late father and guru,Professor V. Lakshminarayana. Since its inception,LGMF has presented some of the greatest artistes from around the world,including Lord Yehudi Menuhin,Smt MS Subbulakshmi,Ustad Bismillah Khan,Al Jarreau,Steven Seagal,Stanley Clarke,George Duke,and Jean Luc Ponty.
