Union Home Minister P Chidambaram has invited the top leadership of Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM),which is spearheading the movement for a separate state of Gorkhaland,for a meeting in Delhi on April 9. Chidambaram will meet Morcha president Bimal Gurung at South Block.
The meeting gains significance as it comes just after the fifth round of tripartite talks that were held in Delhi where broad contours of setting up a Gorkhaland Regional Authority was discussed.
The Morcha,however,declined to make any comments on the agenda of the talks. Our president has been called by the Union Home Minister and he is going there with a delegation. We dont know what will be discussed, said Roshan Giri,general secretary of GJM.
No official from the state government has been invited to the meeting. State Home Secretary Ardhendu Sen,meanwhile,said the state government was yet to give its reply to the proposals submitted in the fifth tripartite meeting.
Incidentally,Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee,along with Minister of Commerce and Industries Nirupam Sen and state Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta will be in Delhi tomorrow to take part in a meeting with the Planning Commission. Later,the CM will have a meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on price rise.
Meanwhile,the police marched through Malbazar area in Jalpaiguri district on Wednesday,a day after clashes between supporters of the GJM and Jana Jagran Manch,an anti-Gorkhaland group,left 20 people injured. There was no report of any violence today.
