Pay compensation to victims of Deganga clashes

A team from the All India Legal Aid Forum,a social organisation,on Tuesday visited the villages of Deganga in North 24 Pargana where communal clashes broke out on September 7. Former Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court A N Roy and some advocates,who were part of the team,interacted with the villagers. Joydeep Mukherjee,general secretary of the All India Legal Aid Forum,said the local administration should take an initiative to pay compensation to the victims of the clashes. He said police did not take any action against those who were responsible for the incident which was a loot under the pretext of communal clashes. The forum has decided to file a PIL in the Calcutta High Court demanding CBI probe into the incident.
