Congress workers celebrate in Kolkata after the party’s win in the Karnataka Assembly elections on Saturday. Partha PaulCongress leaders and workers on Saturday took out victory rallies across West Bengal to celebrate the party’s victory in the Karnataka Assembly elections.
Outside the party’s state headquarters in Kolkata, the workers played with colours and distributed sweets among people to celebrate the occasion. Similar rallies were taken out in Bhowanipore area in south Kolkata, Durgapur and Asansol in West Burdwan district, Purulia in Jangalmahal area, Siliguri in north Bengal and Berhampore in Murshidabad district.
State Congress president Adhir Chowdhury said there is no alternative to the party in national politics and only it can defeat the BJP at the Centre.
“There are two fronts in the country now. One is the communal front of the BJP and another is the secular front of the Congress…It is clear from this Assembly poll results that there is no alternative to the Congress in national politics. Only the Congress has the power to defeat the Narendra Modi government at the Centre,” said Chowdhury.
Meanwhile, the BJP state headquarters wore a deserted look. State BJP president Sukanta Majumdar said, “It is normal in politics that a change of government takes place from time to time. There is nothing unusual in this. The BJP does not believe in looting voters to remain in power just like the TMC here.”
BJP spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya however said, “Those trying to build a narrative that this election result will have an impact in 2024 are making a mistake. The outcome of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls will be repeated in 2024. No power in the country will be able to stop that. The Assembly elections are different and each state has different scenario. Therefore, there are different outcome in Assembly polls in different states.”
Senior CPM leader Sujan Chakraborty said, “The BJP lost this election the way it did in Himachal Pradesh earlier. The party is in trouble and they know that it won’t come to power after 2024 Lok Sabha polls.” The , CPI (M) is the alliance partner of Congress in West Bengal,
